3 Penitensya 2010: Iba ini!

Nang namulat ako sa konsepto ng Mahal na Araw when I was still a kid, Holy Week was something that I really did not look forward to every year. Ayoko kasi ng Semana Santa. And as a kid, iba yung dating sa'kin ng mga istatwa na pinuprusisyon every Good Friday. I did hate seeing the image of Jesus Christ na crucified or nasa loob ng kabaong! Nakakatakot!

But if there's one thing I hate the most about the Holy Week, it would be the deafening weird silence.

May mga bagay din patungkol sa Holy Week that I can hardly understand.

Una, abstinence sa pagkain. I don't get it.

Second is PENITENSYA. Tapos I would usually reply na nagpenitensya na ako before the Holy Week--thesis, alay-lakad after school with my fellow editors and writers sa publication namin, puyatan, requirements before graduation, etc.

But honestly I am one of those who do not believe in the traditional 'penitensya.'

Bakit, 'pag rapist ka ba tapos nagpenitensya ka (the physical and traditional way), would it bring back the virginity or the dignity of your victim(s)?

Even a murderer could not bring back the lives that he has taken kahit idaan n'ya pa sa pagpipenitensya.

It is stated in the Bible that we should respect and take good care of our body and being a masochist during the Lent is an act against our faith.

Hindi ako churchgoer but that's the way I see it. God does not want us to suffer; He simply wants us to repent and to change for the better.

Last Holy Week, I had my own concept of 'penitensya'—a series of unfortunate events plus experience that really annoyed me.

1. WRITER'S BLOCK. There were a lot of things I wanted to write about—graduation (the before, during and after), a poem à la Lost Generation, 1,000 things I love about Kris Aquino, an unforgettable college life (a tearjerker), Boys Secretly Love the Twilight Saga, Is GMA-7 up for a healthy competition?, 2010 Philippine General Elections: Good Track Record versus Good Platform of Government—but I just couldn't!

2. FIVE FACEBOOK-LESS AND TWITTER-LESS DAYS. It was like "Has somebody already made it to hacking into my accounts?"

"Yung candid photos during the kick-off party, were they all uploaded?"

3. TV AND DVD DEPRIVATION. Something unexpected—nagkasabay-sabay. Pressure!

4. ZITS KNOW NO HOLIDAYS. Two words: BAD TRIP! Good to know there was toothpaste.

Hindi naman ganun "kasaklap"—for lack of a better word—ang naging Holy Week ko. Thankful din ako because I had enough time to read Meyer's 'New Moon' and 'Eclipse' all over again!
